Actors enjoy both theatre and Bollywood

Theatre actors often have one grouse, that even though they find creative satisfaction in their work, the money is very less. So often, they find themselves turning to Hindi films.


Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher, are few of the talented actors who have successfully balanced theatre with their Bollywood work. And even the younger lot seems to be following in their footsteps.

Randeep Hooda: Randeep Hooda made his film debut with Monsoon Wedding but the man had a couple of stage experience behind him before that happened. However, Randeep's kept the actor in him alive and keeps acting in theatre along with films, the latest play being Arms and The Man.

Amrita Puri: She charmed everyone with her small town girl act in Aisha. But Amrita Puri, who started her career with theatre, didn't get so enamoured by the accolades, that she would leave it for the silver screen. Post Aisha, she has done plays like The Interview and Famous Last Words.

Aanaahad : His debut film Lahore got him lot of appreciation and a couple of awards as well. Recently, he acted in a historical play Mohenjodaro. The actor believes that acting in theatre helps hone acting skills.

Faruk Kabir: Faruk Kabir's directorial debut Allah Ke bande was his acting debut as well. The film was a moderate success but people noticed his acting skills. He recently made his theatre debut with Falsafa, with his wife Rukhsar.

Shweta Tiwari: The audience knows her best as Prerna from the popular television series Kasauti Zindagi Kay but few know that she started her acting career with theatre. And even though the actress was busy with the small screen and Bhojpuri and Hindi film projects, she has recently acted in another play called Aaine Ke sau Tukde.
